The University of Luxembourg was founded in 2003, right at the heart of the European Union (EU). The University is multilingual, international and strongly focused on research. We aim to achieve research excellence through a culture of reflection, innovation and diversity of approaches (i.e. different perspectives, methodologies, cultures). In line with this focus, research conducted at the University has been steadily growing, as the following numbers reflect.

since the launch of Horizon 2020

 
Horizon 2020 (H2020) is the biggest Research and Innovation programme of the EU ever with nearly 80 billion euros of funding available over seven years (2014 to 2020). It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market.

For a research-centred and innovative university such as the University of Luxembourg it is an important goal to be part of the H2020 community and to continue to successfully apply for these funding opportunities.

 ♦ Horizon 2020

Our performance since the launch of H2020: 38 approved grants (success rate: 15%) with a total budget of 133.9 million euros, thereof a University of Luxembourg share of 24 million euros

 ♦ Horizon 2020 – European Research Council grants (ERC)

Six approved ERC grants under H2020 with a total European Commission contribution of 11.1 million euros for the University of Luxembourg (success rate: 24%). University of Luxembourg ERC Fellows:

 ♦ Horizon 2020 – Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions

Eight approved grants (success rate 16.28%) with a total budget of 13.5 million euros, thereof a University of Luxembourg share of almost 2.1 million euros

EU research funding

"Art.17(4) Pour le financement externe de la mission de recherche, l'Université s'engage sur un taux de 14 % provenant des programmes de recherche 7e programme cadre et Horizon 2020 de l'Union Européenne."

 

The University of Luxembourg committed to funding its research with at least 14% of the total external research funding coming from the 7th framework programme and Horizon 2020.
