Graduation Week

Graduation Week 2017 at the University of Luxembourg

This year, the University of Luxembourg will be holding its very first Graduation Week.

This event is designed to highlight the academic achievements of our students and celebrate their new status as alumni of the University of Luxembourg.

Seven ceremonies will be held over a period of four consecutive days, from 12 to 15 December 2017.

Everything you need to know

Where can I park?

Parking for the graduation ceremonies (PDF) is located outdoors, in front of Maison du Savoir building, on Belval Campus.

Is there a dress code?

We encourage you to dress smartly (business attire) for this important event.

No academic dress (hat, scarf or gown) has been foreseen for this year’s ceremonies.

Will there be a photographer at the ceremony?

A professional photographer, Hans Georg Eiben, will be present during each ceremony to take an official group photo of each graduating class. During the reception after the ceremony, there will be additional opportunities for professional portraits and pictures taken with family and friends. These photos will be available for purchase online following the event at

TERMS AND CONDITIONS: Photographs may be taken for personal use. During the event, the organiser will take pictures and record videos. By using their entrance tickets, guests authorise the University of Luxembourg to record and publish their image in photographic and video format for communications in relation to the event. The organiser undertakes to use this material responsibly, in other words for communications purposes only and not for commercial use.

For fun: self service photo booth (for after the ceremony)

There will also be two photo booths, one on -1 and one on the ground floor.

The photo booths are ‘self service’ and designed to enable you to capture a moment of frivolity, in addition to the more formal photos taken by the professional photographer. There will be students available to help you, should you have any questions.

Can I take pictures during the ceremony?

Students and guests are welcome to take photos during the ceremony. However, we kindly ask you to do so in a manner that does not disrupt the order of proceedings or disturb other guests.

We encourage you to share your photos on social media using our dedicated hashtags: #uni_lu and #graduation.

You may also want to add the following hashtags: #wedidit or #alumni.

What can I expect from my ceremony?

Graduation Week brings together the whole university community to celebrate the success of our students. During the ceremony, you will be handed your diploma and thus officially become a graduate and take your place among the University of Luxembourg’s alumni.

During this week, we recognise the achievements of our students in a festive setting. It is a time of celebration and pride. This December, more than 1,000 students will be graduating from the University of Luxembourg across seven ceremonies held over four days.

The most important part of each graduation ceremony is the conferring of degrees. Each graduating class will be called to the stage as a group. Students are then called one by one to be presented with their diploma by the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of their Faculty and their Course Director.

Each year, a small selection of students is honoured for their outstanding academic performance.

Prizes are awarded in various study programmes and funded by different organisations and companies.

All ceremonies will be opened by the respective Dean and the Vice-President for Academic Affairs. Each ceremony will feature additional speakers, organised through the Faculties.

We invite all our graduating students, their accompanying friends and family as well as other guests to join a reception hosted immediately following the graduation ceremony.
